Following his successful feature début Fanfare, Haanstra made this comic thriller. After the international soccer match Netherlands-Belgium, the pride of all Belgians, Manneken Pis turns out to be nicked. The Belgians think up a befitting retribution. They try to steal the statue of the legendary Hansje Brinkers, the boy that preserved Holland from a flood by sticking his thumb in a dike. The original title was De zaak Manneken Pis, but this went a little too far for the censorship board.
