Documentary portrait in which the directors of the First Amsterdam Film Association, René Seegers, Leon de Winter en Jean Van de Velde, pay a visit to the Austrian playwright Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989), who then leads a secluded life on a farm. Apart from images of his house, city shots of Salzburg and conversations with Bernhard and people from his surroundings, the film includes excerpts from the German staging of Bernhard's play Der Weltverbesserer.
