After the devastating fireworks disaster that, in May 2000, reduced a residential neighbourhood in Enschede to ashes, residents, emergency workers and policymakers are swept up in a struggle for truth, blame, and justice.
On May 13, 2000, a fire in a warehouse in the Roombeek district of Enschede escalates into a devastating fireworks explosion. A mosaic of characters, featuring Joes Brauers, Thomas Acda and Katrien van Beurden, must come to terms with the disaster in this drama series: residents who lose loved ones, a police officer with memory loss, a mayor under fire, and the owner of the warehouse who is designated as an accomplice. As the smoke clears, the search begins for scapegoats and the real culprits.
