Documentary about writer Jan de Hartog (1914) and his escape from the Netherlands during WW II.
Writer Jan de Hartog (1914) fled in April 1943 from Holland to escape from capture by the Germans. It was a severe journey of more than four months that took him over one national border after another with the aid of different underground networks: via Belgium and France to Switzerland, back to France, over the Pyrenees and to Spain and eventually through Gibraltar to London. The documentary shows De Hartog - who now lives in Houston, Texas - working on the manuscript of a novella about this flight and tells his exciting story to friends. The film also follows the route of the flight again where contemporaries and companions of De Hartog complete the story.
