Comedy, in which businessman Mr Swieps gives a hitcher a lift home. The hitcher later turns out to have a diabolical influence and causes much confusion in the family. During the party at the end of the film, the family's fate seems sealed.
Inspired by the French nouvelle vague, producer Rob du Mée gave the Dutch film industry a new impetus with his first film De verloedering van de Swieps, an adaptation of Heere Heeresma's book of the same name. In this 'cruel comedy', as critics described it at the time, the plain businessman Swieps brings home a hitchhiker (played by Ramses Shaffy). The stranger appears to have a diabolic influence on the family members, causing great confusion within the household. During the party at the end of the film, the family's fate seems to be sealed.
