Orlow Seunke’s feature debut was inspired by Hungarian author György Konrád’s novel The visitor from 1976. The story deals with a cynical, rule-abiding civil servant of the social services (played by Gerard Thoolen), whose life changes when he is confronted with a girl that has been locked up in a closet for years by her mentally deranged parents. The film won the Dutch Film Critics’ Award and a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
