Children's film, adapted from the 63-volume children's book series by Hotze de Roos, the first volume of which appeared in 1948. De Jong visualises the adventures of the brazen Frisian twins Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer (acting debut of Koen and Jos van der Donk), who live close to a lake in the country village of Lenten in the late fifties. With their monkey tricks, the smith's sons are a thorn in the flesh of the respectable village. Village constable Zwart has his work cut out for him, which is why he has no time for the real crooks, who regularly break into people's houses. Just when the twins become the lucky owners of a discarded boat, a hurricane sweeps across the village. In these nasty conditions, the doctor's car lands in the water, but the twins, together with their father, manage to save him from death by drowning. As a reward, they can keep the car. They use the engine to convert their sloop into a real speedboat: De Kameleon. Sietse and Hielke can put it to good use when tracking down the thieves.
