Youth film about Jakob and his ill grandfather.
This children's film is based on a book by Sjoerd Kuyper. Jakob's grandfather has lived in France for years, but comes back to Holland to spend his twilight years in his old home town. During the autumn holiday, Jakob stays with his grandfather and listens fascinated to his exciting folk tales set in the village. But when he is doing up his new home, grandfather slips and ends up in bed. In feverish dreams, he keeps gibbering about a swan. An elderly lady who is looking after his grandfather tells Jakob that his grandpa as a child had a wooden swan that he then lost. Worried about his ailing grandfather, Jakob sets off in search of the red swan and finds himself in an adventurous fairytale world.
