When the pricey e-bike that gives this Young Urban Professional such a high status in his gentrified working-class district malfunctions, this archetypical member of the ‘aspirational class’ promptly loses his image, in this tragicomedy. Something snaps in him.
Absurdist tragicomedy in which the Randstad-based ‘aspirational class’ gets the worst of it, as soon as a status symbol breaks down. In this debut film, a tone-deaf Young Urban Professional blandly traverses his Amsterdam working-class district that, owing to him and his peers, is rapidly gentrifying. When he fails to unlock the digital lock of his e-bike and the helpdesk remains unreachable, life suddenly becomes unbearable. What remains of your personality if it is fully embodied by your e-bike? Can this ‘effing yup’ renounce his carefully fabricated image?
