Tragi-comic television film about the difficult process of growing old, based on the story by Remco Campert. Protagonist in De malle tennispet is a retired publisher who has spent some time living in a home for artists and intellectuals. He can't and won't accept the fact that he is no longer at the heart of things. He tries frantically to keep in touch with the world outside the home. When his health deteriorates, he slowly starts to become alienated from the outside world. In the end he accepts his advancing years and decides never to leave the safe haven of the home.
