The members of the Liefhebber family have to learn to deal with their fears, shortcomings and troubled ties when it turns out the authoritarian man of the house has kept silent about his disease for a year.
The Liefhebbers seem to be a loving family. Jan and Lea raised their four children based on the conviction they had to arm them against the blows that life deals; keep going, never give up, be strong. The result is that Jonathan, Sam, Kasper and Maria seem to be doing fairly well in their personal lives. But when the family is confronted with the fact that Jan is seriously ill, it turns out that true contact has not been self-evident for quite some time.
