The Paris-based political cartoonist Bernard 'Willem' Holtrop is regularly awarded. But he considers fame nonsense. Still, he admits: 'As long as you can do things you're not ashamed of in magazines you're not ashamed of, I don't mind having a large audience.' Holtrop comments on the news; contemporary history is his topic. His work is quite controversial, because he also arouses lawsuits. Where his moral limits are? Even one of his faithful French patrons would not know. And even his wife thinks some drawings are over the top. It is Holtrop's goal to touch nerves, otherwise he may as well draw illustrations, he thinks. Accompanied mainly by jazzy music, his political cartoons file past. Alternated with images of the tender life he and his wife Medi lead. These scenes are interlaced with archive photos of the couple. The cartoonist is brought out as an energetic and amiable man.
