Partly autobiographical feature début by Arno Kranenborg about an old man who is taking his leave of life and a teenager becoming acquainted with love. Every summer, Jan helps his grandparents to gather cherries on their farm. In the year when he turns thirteen, everything is different. Jan falls in love with his cousin Marie and Grandpa mourns for his recently deceased wife. In the winter Grandpa dies too. Jan returns to the province of Drenthe to attend his funeral and bumps into his summer love Marie again. The encounter is short, but long enough for the boy to realise his affair with her is doomed. A film about the loss of innocence and the seasons of life.
