Farewell film by minimal-movie director Pim de la Parra, shot on location in Rotterdam. The film tells the story of a young inventor and his elegant wife. The brilliant inventor, never taken seriously in his vocation, has stopped working after the death of his father. In a fit of jealousy he tries to strangle his successful wife. He withdraws into himself and hopes that, if he remains silent, his life will acquire new meaning. Then the woman takes the unexpected decision to give up her career and to follow her husband into a simple married life. The Dream of a Shadow was the first film to come out of the new workshop and début studio set up by Pim de la Parra as the Rotterdam Academy for Cinematography.
