Documentary following the last bridge-keeper on the Rotterdam Koningshaven railway bridge for several months. Arie has been bridge-keeper on De Hef for 27 years. He completes his daily tasks with great precision and feels like the pivot in a huge set of gears. Everything looks fine at first sight, but as the film progresses it becomes clear that Arie's last working day is approaching fast. The new railway tunnel will soon be opened and the bridge will lose its function. Arie has no idea what will happen to him then. The bridge was his life and the future looks bleak.
