People sometimes think he is blunt, Hans Becker admits, chairman of the board of the Humanitas Foundation in Rotterdam. Becker prefers to call himself direct and in front of the camera, which followed him for a couple of days, he certainly shows no restraint whatsoever. From the registration of Becker at work and home and from interviews with him and his immediate environment, an unstoppable, dynamic, creative, but also generous organiser emerges, who saw to it that the Humanitas homes were 'livened up' with fine restaurants, museums and a more humane treatment. He also puts his humanitarian philosophy into practice in his private life: for example, he lovingly put up an incurable junkie in his own house. 'Actually, I can't remember how he ended up here', Becker mutters apologetically. Besides at work and home, the filmmaker followed this striking man from Rotterdam when accepting the chair of extraordinary professor of Humanisation of Care at the University for Humanistics in Utrecht.
