Portrait in direct cinema style of self-made captain of industry Cornelis Verolme. The prospective VPRO filmmaker Roelof Kiers follows the modern entrepreneur at home, in his office, at the launching of ships, in his native village Nieuwe Tonge and during an aubade on his birthday. Kiers also has a candid conversation with Verolme, who regularly tries to take over the directing of the film.
