Portrait of the conservative Dutch composer Jos van Amelsvoort (1910-2003).
Portrait of the conservative Dutch composer Jos van Amelsvoort (1910-2003). At a young age he decided not to follow the modern atonal trend that caught on before the war. He placed himself outside the official musical establishment and remained fairly unknown. Only in the eighties, after the atonal and serial music storms had calmed, did interest in the work of this late-Romantic increase. The film portrays musicians performing work by the Roman Catholic composer and a performance of Van Amelsvoort's first symphonic work. He composed this work entitled Sinfonietta in 1944, but had not yet heard it performed.
