Power and poetic images go hand in hand in this moving double portrait of Dutch kickbox pioneer Thom Harinck and his daughter Jane, who is also standing strong in the ring. They have a special bond.
This portrait of an extraordinary father and his equally extraordinary daughter seamlessly combines documentary and fiction, with the scenery intensifying the touching feelings. 'Chico' is the code word, invented by kickbox pioneer Thom Harinck, denoting the crucial final thirty seconds of a round. His daughter Jane, also a kickboxer, wants to become at least as strong as Thom and confronts her fears in intensive preparations for the fight. When the film approaches its own 'Chico' moment, Jane is alone in the ring – symbolising her burgeoning resilience and self-reliance. An inspiring story about growing up, fighting and embracing life.
