Can't U Hear Me Singin' is a musical trip through the United States in which Walter Stokman portrays four Afro-American musicians. Their different ages and backgrounds make it possible for the film to provide a subtle picture both of American society and the history of black music. Ike Turner and Swamp Dog are two representatives of a forgotten generation. Turner mainly lives from royalties on old hits and Swamp Dog has embarked on a second career as the producer of young black artists. Rosie Ledet and rapper Tragedy represent the younger generation. Violence, discrimination and drug addiction feature regularly in their stories; music is for each of them a way out to a better life.
