Burnt Toast

Director: Helen Anna Flanagan
Unemployed magician Phil is obsessed with the late television icon Tommy Cooper. Trapped in a dilapidated house, he descends into a hallucinatory performance in which delusion and illusion blur.
Magician Phil is holed up in a grimy house. The camera occasionally reveals details of its decrepit state: grit everywhere, torn wallpaper and broken tiles on the wall. Phil is obsessed with Tommy Cooper, the British comedian who died on stage in 1984. A famously bizarre death, as the audience remained seated when Cooper collapsed on stage, thinking it was part of the act. Burnt Toast explores that same blurred line between delusion, illusion and reality. Are we watching Phil's final act?
