Seven-part television series around the theme os surviving in the fens. Rogier Proper and Jonne Severijn wrote seven different stories about unusual and legendary characters on the basis of a large number of anecdotes and sagas from the former fens of the northern provinces of Friesland, Groningen and Drente. The stories, set between 1880 and 1925, are fictional yet provide a picture of the late history of the fens. In this episode, entitled Farewell, the history of peat mining was coming to its end. Plundering gangs ravaged the area and tradesman took the law into their own hands. The community, once so tightly knit, fell apart and said farewell to an era, in a mood of chaos and confusion.
