Broken Circle is a quest for the life and work of Wies Smals (1939-1983), who introduced performance as a new art form in her Amsterdam art gallery De Appel. The life of Wies Smals is increasingly revealed through the eyes of Nusch, who happens to come into contact with her. Nusch is increasingly fascinated by this artist. Through loves, friends and artists from the time, such as Abramovic, Ulay, Palestine and Rosenbach, Nusch becomes increasingly tangled up in the life of Wies Smals. The film is not just a black fairytale. With the life of Wies Smals as theme, Broken Circle provides a picture of art in the seventies.
