Cinematographic research into the emotional bond between Dutch viewers and those affected by the climate crisis on the Polynesian island Tuvalu. After all: How do you cope with (images of) climatic disasters far from home?
While on the Polynesian island of Tuvalu the effects of the climate crisis have been manifest for years, it doesn’t really seem to upset us in the Netherlands. With this cinematographic research into footage of climate-related disasters, we can wonder how we should deal with the registration of such situations. Does the torrent of images numb us, or is it the only way to grasp the urgency? This documentary tries to restore the emotional bond between Dutch viewers and those affected by the climate crisis in Tuvalu, at the same time exploring the role and limitations of images in raising awareness and prompting action.
