AWA

Director: Tarona
In this collage of sound and image, water carries both personal and collective stories of the Black diaspora, in which past, present and future become intertwined.
This experimental film by Curaçao-born artist Tarona began as a sound experience and was subsequently given visual form through imagery referencing the relationship between water and the Black diaspora. The result is a meditative and poetic film in which water is a living, fluid force. At its centre is a swimmer addressed by the voice of the water. We hear the water speak to her and see fragments of stories depicting the various characters' relationships to water.
