Director: Tamara Shogaolu
How can you know where you are going if you don't know where you came from? This animated mixed reality game takes you to the Bijlmermeer - the neighbourhood of black teenager Anouschka who goes in search of her roots.
After a racist incident at school, violinist Anouschka delves into her family's history, which turns out to be closely linked to that of the Bijlmer. You learn more about this neighbourhood, one of the most diverse in the Netherlands, through your smartphone screen, as you help Anouschka on her way by playing minigames. Throughout, animations and archive footage highlighting how immigrants have been advocating for the preservation of their culture. To find her own song, Anouschka must rediscover the music of her ancestors. Maker Tamara Shogaolu previously won the Holland Film Meeting Work-in-Progress Award for this and was nominated for a Golden Calf in 2019 with her interactive work Another Dream.
