In 1990, Digna Sinke shot the documentary Niets voor de eeuwigheid, presenting a picture of the industrialisation of the Netherlands through steam engines, railway bridges, factories and working-class houses. These are sometimes preserved as industrial monuments and sometimes demolished. From the remaining footage of that documentary, Sinke compiled Afscheid, a short poetic film about buildings that are about to disappear.
