What do aircraft builders, swimmers and speed skaters have in common? They are all trying to conquer the resistance of air or water and yearn for increasingly high speeds. The biologist John Videler looks into the secret of the swordfish - the fastest fish in the world. Information about the hydrodynamics of fish, for instance the effect of ridges or scales, can be applied in sport or industry.
