'Abandonado' is Spanish for abandoned, like the village where this film was shot. Janovas is a small settlement in the Spanish Pyrenees that was deserted in the Franco era by its inhabitants. Pictures of derelict houses, the immense emptiness of the mountain landscape and traces of human habitation are juxtaposed with black-and-white photos taken in about 1900 of village life in Janovas and other places in the area. On the soundtrack we hear 'space sounds' recorded by NASA, giving the pictures an unreal impression.
