How do different creative people reflect reality? In a conversation with five film and podcast makers, a young documentary director wants to examine what the truth is. Because ‘it’s not that we want to lie, but it just happens.’
When shooting a documentary, Ciska Meister gets caught up in the concepts of truth and reality. Because we may want to believe it, but documentaries are not objective windows to the real world. They are interpretations, accounts, testimonies. But if they aren’t accurate reflections of reality, what does distinguish documentaries from fiction? This is a film that resembles a dog chasing its tail: a documentary in which a director examines how other documentary filmmakers operate when visualising reality.
