Filmmaker Paul Cox (1940) werd in Nederland geboren, maar emigreerde in de jaren zestig naar Australië. Nadat zijn film Man of flowers in 1983 werd gepresenteerd op het filmfestival van Cannes, volgde zijn internationale doorbraak. De documentaire A journey with Paul Cox is enerzijds een introductie op het oeuvre van de Nederlands-Australische cineast en laat anderzijds zien (o.a. door vele fragmenten uit zijn films) hoe leven en werk voor hem onlosmakelijk verbonden zijn.
