Accessibility

Everyone is welcome at the Netherlands Film Festival (abbreviation NFF)! To make the NFF accessible to as many visitors as possible, we have made the festival wheelchair-friendly, we use Dutch sign language interpreters for introductions and Q&As, and every day we screen films with Dutch and/or English subtitles. People who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, and/or hard of hearing can also use apps such as Earcatch and Subcatch.

See you in Utrecht between Friday, September 26 and Friday, October 3, 2025!

Do you have a question, request or tip about accessibility at the Netherlands Film Festival? Please ask it via the chat box at the bottom right of the screen, or send an email to [email protected] or call 030 – 2303800. We will gladly help you out.

Wheelchair Accessible

The main locations of the NFF are wheelchair accessible. Below you can see which locations are wheelchair accessible.

Earcatch

A voice describes what is happening on screen between dialogues via the Earcatch app. This makes it much easier for people who are visually impaired or blind to follow the story. Audio description is available in this way for various feature films, documentaries and series that can be seen during the festival. A voice describes what is happening on screen via your headphones. Elements that are described include characters, facial expressions, location and developments in the storyline.

How does it work?

Install the app on your smartphone or tablet. Select the film or series you want to watch and download the corresponding audio description. Put on your headphones and select “play” as soon as the film or series starts. Earcatch ensures that the audio description is perfectly synchronised with what is happening on screen.

Programme
In the programme overview, click on the “Accessibility” filter and then click on “Earcatch app”. You will now see all films that are equipped with Earcatch.

Sound amplification via induction loop

Unfortunately, our festival venues (Stadsschouwburg Utrecht, Louis Hartlooper Complex, Kinepolis Jaarbeurs and Bibliotheek Neude) do not offer standard sound amplification via induction loops.

In our NFFx030 programme, we do offer sound amplification via induction loops at the following location:
The Promise @ Molen de Ster

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Since 2025, NFF has been affiliated with the organisation Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.

Some disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses are not immediately visible to others. Hidden Disabilities Sunflower offers recognisable aids such as a lanyard, bracelet or button with a sunflower print that allows wearers to show that they need extra help, understanding or time.

Assistance or guide dog

Your guide dog or assistance dog is, of course, very welcome. Please ensure that your dog is recognisable as an assistance or guide dog by wearing a special vest or harness.

Companion / Guide

You can request a free ticket for an accompanying person via [email protected]. Are you coming with someone? Send us an email with all the tickets you would like to reserve. Please mention “Ticket with companion” in the subject line. Indicate which programme you would like to attend, along with the date and time. We will be happy to help you.
