Like many filmmakers, Eliane Esther Bots (winner of the Golden Calf for Best Short Documentary 2022 with In Flow of Words) gathers hours of interview material while making her films. Only a small selection of that ever makes it into the final films. For this interactive book – 275 pages, with three audio tracks guiding you crisscross through its pages – Eliane returned to the original material. Together with the people she interviewed, she reworked the transcripts of their conversations into new, complete versions of their stories. The book brings these stories together with poems, drawings, and paintings. They speak to experiences and memories of conflict, seen from three different perspectives: young, second-generation Dutch-Bosnian women, interpreters who worked for the Yugoslav Tribunal, and a family who fled the war in Chechnya.
