The session is built around the Maker Dialogue, a conversation method developed by HKU. You're divided into small groups with makers from different disciplines, taking on a different role each time: sometimes you talk about a pivotal moment from your own work, other times you question someone else about theirs. It's not a critique session or an assessment, but a shared exploration of how a work actually comes into being, something the maker is often putting into words for the very first time.
Precisely because you're paired with creators from very different backgrounds and disciplines, the conversations that emerge turn out to be surprisingly relatable. Despite all the differences in medium and craft, the same struggles and breakthroughs keep resurfacing. This gives you not just insight into someone else's work, but also a mirror for your own process.
Please note: registering does not guarantee your participation. The NFF makes a selection to ensure the groups are diverse and to avoid an overrepresentation of any single discipline. Your participation is only confirmed once you receive a confirmation email from the NFF in the week before the festival. The registration deadline is 17 September. Taking part in the Meet-up is free of charge.
