In 1983, the Iranian writer Nasim Khaksar came to the Netherlands as a political refugee. He ended up in Utrecht, where he still lives after more than thirty years. This restrained film shows how he takes a bus, train and boat to make the same trip in the opposite direction, via Turkish places such as Van and Istanbul, to the Iranian border. But he cannot enter his motherland. Khaksar tells about his exile, how he experiences the Netherlands as a refugee and how he expresses his experiences in his stories.
