Welcome to the Netherlands: pillar to post, at every turn. For newcomers, finding their way through the bureaucratic maze of typically Dutch red tape is quite the challenge.
Since the new Wet Inburgering (Civic Integration Act) came into force, responsibility for shaping the integration process no longer lies with newcomers themselves, but with the municipality. Breda developed the CUSTOMER JOURNEY integration programme for this purpose. This documentary follows several newcomers as they work through the various stages of this integration process, navigating the Dutch system of counters and rules: from housing and finances to language and culture classes and buddy programmes. A sharp and sometimes comic mirror held up to the Netherlands, where familiar rules and bureaucracy collide with everyday reality and the determination of those who must deal with it.
