How do you acquire a new identity as a brand new refugee in the Netherlands? Writer and filmmaker Kaweh Modiri adapted a chapter from his debut novel Meneer Sadek en de anderen for a film drama about the tragicomic vicissitudes and adaptation problems of an Iranian family in Amersfoort in the late 1980s. The perspective lies with the youngest son Sam, who in many respects seems older and wiser than the rest of the family. Through his wakeful eye, the maker observes the Netherlands and its new inhabitants.
