Viennese stand-up comedian is confronted with his jewish identity.
Daniel Orgelbrand is a stand-up comedian from Vienna. He cherishes his problems with girlfriends and parents in a normal maladjusted way. But he cannot escape from the shadow of his sister Hannah, who died in a concentration camp at the age of seven. Daniel's feelings of guilt go so far that he assumes the identity of Hannah for his mother, who is deep in sorrow. When he falls in love with the American girl Lilian, who is apparently not pursued by European 20th-century nightmares, he realises he has to shake off Hannah. Lilian becomes pregnant and a dramatic confrontation ensues between the living and the dead.
