In the buildup to the largest Vermeer exhibition ever, experts look for answers: What really makes a Vermeer a Vermeer? And why do we consider him a master?
As much as has been written about Johannes Vermeer, as little is known about the seventeenth-century artist. This documentary follows Gregor Weber, world-renowned Vermeer expert and curator of the Rijksmuseum. In the year leading up to his retirement, he works on his big dream: the largest Vermeer exhibition ever, bringing together crowd pullers like The Milkmaid and Girl with a Pearl Earring. Weber joins a group of Vermeer lovers and experts, looking for what really makes a Vermeer a Vermeer.
