Beelden in Beweging - NFF Fellows in het Centraal Museum

Victorine van Alphen presents This is as naked as I could get, a video installation in which the artist searches for intimacy, mourning and expressiveness with and despite AI. The title refers to the paradoxical workings of censorship versus sexualization when using AI: Whereas most consumer-oriented AIs such as Midjourney produce increasingly aestheticized, idealized and censored images, other AIs are instead so trained with datasets full of porn that result in every swipe becoming a nipple.

In Chair Dont Care, Simone Niquille explores how to use storytelling (telling stories that touch people emotionally) to connect children’s television with machine learning, where computers themselves learn from data - to create a new TV series for children. Chair gets frustrated because society constantly misunderstands him. His movements are not animations, but the result of a machine learning process that taught the character to walk, sit and climb.

From 29 September through 3 October, the works of Victorine van Alphen and Simone C. Niquille will be on display alternately from 06:00 till 00:00. These works stem from research conducted as part of the NFF Fellowships Program 2024-2025.
