Since the 1970s, more than forty thousand children have been adopted in the Netherlands. When after a temporary stop it was possible to adopt children from abroad again, it made aspiring adoptive parents happy, but it also raised concerns among others. In this revealing debut documentary series, filmmaker Kelly-Qian van Binsbergen tells the story of her adoption. How she ended up as a Chinese baby in a Zeeland family and could not take root there. "Chinese takeaway", she was often called during childhood. She dives into her personal adoption process and divulges myths and misconceptions around the Dutch adoption system. In May of this year, the Dutch government imposed a total ban on international adoptions again.
