Batik, Beats & Bumbu

Director: Claire Pijman, NSC
Duration: 85 minutes
Young Dutch-Indonesian artists and entrepreneurs are giving new meaning to their cultural heritage by working together and looking at the past and future with an open mind.
There are many ways of looking back on the Dutch colonial occupation of Indonesia. But that also means there are many ways of looking towards the future. Third-generation Dutch-Indonesians are taking a fresh look at their cultural heritage. Batik, Beats & Bumbu portrays young artists and entrepreneurs who weave this into their work by actively collaborating with people from Indonesia. Out of this cultural cross-pollination between the Netherlands and Indonesia, a vision of the future is born, one in which art and culture can have a powerfully healing effect.
