In Weesp, a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees is opened. The communal kitchen is the place where memories are shared and collectively cooking and eating offers consolation and an escape from homesickness.
In this observational documentary, filmmakers Petra Lataster-Czisch and Peter Lataster (Miss Kiet’s Children) follow the comings and goings at the newly opened reception centre for Ukrainian refugees in Weesp. The cinematographers are present from the start, revealing how the reality of a new life takes shape. The central meeting point is a large kitchen with shiny stoves and numbered boxes in the fridge for each room. This safe haven provides relief, though life remains tough.
