The Great Orator

Director: Daniel Ernst
Duration: 0 minutes
Death doesn't have to be the end, not when you're clairvoyant and all-knowing. Long live AI! Once a TV medium in the style of Jomanda, she's now merged with her followers into a shared consciousness. What does she have to tell you (or feed you a line about)?
In the recent work of VR-pioneer Daniel Ernst (Golden Calf winner for Best Interactive 2019, for Die Fernweh Oper), the title character dies at the height of her fame as a TV medium, only to live on as an AI. The house of The Great Orator sits at the centre of this VR experience. Trained on the memories of her followers and current developments, she emerges as an all-knowing narrator — or at least one who's very good at faking it.

To shape the world's stories and memories, the filmmakers worked together with poet Thomas Möhlmann, who laid the groundwork for what a Large Language Model, fed in part by a live news feed, allows to grow endlessly from there.
