If she ever sees her husband and family members again, she'd ask for their forgiveness, says Kalbinur Sidik. She hasn't seen them since fleeing her country in 2019 and starting to speak out about the persecution of the Uyghurs in East Turkestan. That separation is painful, but she can't stay silent. As an Uzbek woman who grew up within the Uyghur community, she has witnessed with her own eyes the methods the Chinese state uses to erase the Uyghur population.
