HFM Individual Meetings
09:00 - 20:00

All HFM guests are invited to meet with their far-flung colleagues and potential future collaborators – time zones permitting. The HFM Online portal allows for accredited guests to request meetings with anyone who might be of interest to their work practice. Although it’s all online, we still encourage the same open-minded cross pollination that has always made the Holland Film Meeting stand out!

HFM Borrel Hour #3: Green Filmmaking
17:00-18:00

Before we dive into the extravaganza that is the HFM Awards, we’re inviting every HFM guest to the third and last informal industry session during drinks time. Co-hosted by Creative Europe Desk NL, this session has gathered researchers from Utrecht University and Netherlands-based film producers to discuss the current state of green filmmaking practices in our industry. Are we all headed in the right way — which is, one that will keep our planet around for as long as possible? The session will include both a keynote presentation and plenty of room to talk with your colleagues from all over. Open to all HFM guests; no RSVP needed.

HFM Awards
HFM Awards
19:00 - 20:15

The most tangible take-away from this year’s online event will be the support of our HFM Awards: a Script Award, a Marketing Award, a Production Award, and a Post-Production Award. All projects selected for BoostNL, New Dutch, and Stories & Beyond will be eligible for these awards, and international juries will make the selection.

Join us for a night of surprises, great music, and a celebration of collaboration and connection in all kinds of ways!

HFM Paul Tyler
HFM: Paul Tyler Session #3: FLAT GIRLS (BoostNL)
10:30 - 12:30

Paul Tyler is known in the film world as the ‘LEGO Man’. Armed with a suitcase full of LEGO, he invites teams to ‘map’ their movie idea with figures on a big table.

During the HFM, Paul Tyler will sit down with four different filmmaking teams to filter their story ideas through his LEGO-colored lens. The resulting conversations are always stimulating, inspiring, and beautifully off-kilter, as Tyler’s unique approach brings out rather unexpected elements in each idea.

The third project Paul will shine his light over is the Thai feature film FLAT GIRLS by writer-director Jirassaya “Claire” Wongsutin, produced by Pom Bunsermvicha and Noorahaya “Jan” Lahtee (Vertical Films).

HFM Borrel Hour #1: Mental Health
17:00-18:00

During the first of three informal industry “hangouts” on the virtual platform of the HFM, we’ve joined forces with our friends at ACE Producers to host a session about mental health in the creative industries. International speaker David Beeney will shine his brilliant light on the topic, after which the Dutch and international guests are invited to continue the much-needed conversation among themselves. A good and mentally healthy way to wrap up the first of three all-online HFM days. Open to all HFM guests; no RSVP needed.

Stories beyond

Stories & Beyond

13:00 - 17:00

A selected group of screenwriters and producers from the Netherlands and three focus countries (France, Indonesia and South-Africa) will sit down for pressure cooker sessions with wide-ranging industry experts from those four countries. In this carousel of film expertise, they will test the waters for their ideas and seek ways to radically boost the potential impact of their screenplays.

This event is for Stories & Beyond project participants and experts. Stories & Beyond is one of the programmes of the HFM (Holland Film Meeting). Learn more about the Holland Film Meeting here.

HFM Borrel Hour #2: Virtual (Co-)Production
17:00-18:00

Our second informal industry session during Dutch drinks time gathers the accredited HFM guests to discuss the topic of Virtual (Co-)Production, especially relevant in an era of both voluntary and forced movements towards working online. Our colleagues from the Netherlands Film Commission have asked Dennis Kleyn and PlanetX to give a short keynote about their experiences with virtual (co-)production, after which everyone (with or without a drink in hand) is welcome to ask questions and discuss among themselves. All taking place in our funky virtual environment, created by OHYAY. Open to all HFM guests; no RSVP needed.

HFM: Plenary Session #2
14:00 - 17:00 - Post Production w/APostLab

All too often we only started thinking about post-production once we’ve survived the tidal wave that is the actual shoot. We’re here to tell you: do yourself a favor and change that practice! There’s so much to be gained from incorporating editors, sound designers, color graders, VFX’ers and all those other wonderful post-production “cave dwellers” into the earlier stages of development and pre-production. The acclaimed team of Netherlands- and Germany-based training institute APostLab will explore the creative opportunities of international co-production, the joys of virtual production, and so much else under the umbrella of “Post Before You Shoot” with you all. Drawing from experiences on collaborations with Roy Andersson, Jim Jarmusch, Mischa Kamp, Amat Escalante and Yorgos Lanthimos, they will have plenty to share with you and are happy to answer any and all questions you may have (but have never dared to ask, perhaps).

A directing teacher and both Columbia and NYU, she’s worked on projects as wide-ranging as Las malas intenciones, May in the Summer, Mon père le diable and shows like Girls, Ray Donovan and even Grey’s Anatomy in steering performances towards emotional and cinematic truth.
