On Friday October 4, the 2019 Golden Calf awards were handed out during the Grolsch Golden Calf Gala of the 39th edition of the Nederlands Film Festival (NFF). The NFF is the most important cinematic event within the Dutch calendar for the country’s film-loving public, as well the place where Dutch film professionals meet to talk and reflect with national and international colleagues.
Winners in the Feature Film and Long Documentary categories are determined by an academy system, introduced in 2015 in the Netherlands and similar to the system applied to the Oscars, Baftas, Lolas and Césars. Those eligible to vote are previous Golden Calf winners, Dutch first-prize winners at A-list festivals worldwide and members of the Dutch Academy For Film (DAFF). Winners in the Short Documentary, Short Film, TV Drama and Interactive categories are determined by expert juries.
