This adaptation of the Henry James classic is a poetic adaptation. Sometimes literally, sometimes more liberally, it tells a historical yet timeless love story that runs up to the present. A dance film, and then again it is not.
Against the backdrop of a secluded English manor, the mysterious love story is played out of John Marcher and May Bartram. John goes through life with the paralysing premonition that he will experience an ominous event. The only person he confides this to is May, who decides to wait for that moment with him. This epic duet is based on the novellaThe Beast in the Jungle that Henry James wrote in 1903. In this dance adaptation, the story extends from the late nineteenth century to the present.
