Serge’s story serves as a model for the growing poverty among Dutch entrepreneurs: he cultivates a successful appearance, but is meanwhile burdened down by major debts.
Some 365,000 entrepreneurs in the Netherlands are having financial problems. Most of them won’t openly admit it, because it would harm their prestige in the business world. This documentary follows one of them, Serge, from up close for two years. His debts stem from the days of the financial crisis. The consequences are evident at home. Because the washer is broken, they clean their laundry in the bathtub, and they have difficulties scraping together their children’s tuition. The film makes clear Serge’s story is a case in point for many other entrepreneurs.
