Amber Vineyard is the founder of the first ballroom house in the Netherlands. Here, LGBTQ+ performers are free to enter the dancefloor and flaunt their most male or female sides.
In the United States, Amber Vineyard got to know herself on the dancefloors of ballroom houses, where the LGBTQ+ community is wholly embraced. Within the walls of the ballroom, they are safe to dress, express and behave themselves as they like. This way, the ballroom scene acts as a decisive liberating factor for many young people who feel marginalised elsewhere. Once arrived in Rotterdam, Vineyard missed these localities. This documentary portrait follows her, while she establishes her own house and inspires a new generation as a matriarch of ballroom.
